Chaos Theory
why small things lead to big results
A small change in habit can have a massive change in results. Call it Chaos theory or "the butterfly effect”…
The past couple night’s I’ve been having trouble sleeping. I would stay up all night and inefficiently get things done. I was in a bad space mentally and although I had few inspiring moments, for the most part my nights were spent inefficiently, riddled with anxiety, and time wasted.
I would sleep around 7-8am and wake up around 7pm. Altogether in a bad mood, like my mind was attacking me in whatever way it can.
Until…
I changed one habit. I didn’t realize it but the coffee I was drinking around 7pm was keeping me awake. I didn’t think much of it since I had a huge immunity to caffeine and would on a typical day drink 3+ cups of coffee on an empty stomach and down it with a cigarette for dessert (hey, I didn’t say I was a health coach!)…
anyways, this one simple habit was enough to change everything. It was a habit I was doing unconsciously without realizing that it basically changed the trajectory of my entire day, week and month.
So, yesterday I stopped myself from my habit but it took awareness. I took the coffee grounds out. I was about to make myself a cup, and then I paused. Asked myself “what if I don’t do this today”. (Keep in mind that up until now I was up all night for literally weeks)…
And, it worked! I slept through the night until the healthy hour of 2am where I promptly got up and began writing and working on pressing matters of topmost priority!
So, needless to say my sleep schedule is still not healthy. But at least I’m up and about at 11am, getting work done during the waking day. Writing this to you. And, I feel great knowing that I got all this stuff done and my day is still ahead of me…
The lesson is not a personal journal or account of my ignorance. It’s a lesson on HABITS.
What small habit is slowly building you up or building you down?
what about people?
are you doing these things unconsciously?
There is a book that is my all-time favorite although I haven’t read it in a couple years and don’t intend on reading it. It’s called The Slight Edge.
Simply put, small actions repeated over time yield massive results.
In my case, a simple habit that I did that took less than 3 minutes had a massive impact on the rest of my 24 hours, my entire week, and my entire month. It affected my mental health and brought bouts of mania coupled with anxiety. It made me feel sluggish and irritable.
And, all I had to do was not drink a cup of coffee in the evening. It was my blind spot due to habit and nothing else.
Take an account of your day. Your DAILY actions. Create a Log.
Are these habits bringing you up or pulling you down?
And the next time, you say you “don’t have time”, remember time is FOUND and lost time is never found.
I’ve replaced Netflix with healthy inputs
I have a list of movies I want to watch so I never spend time “searching”
I’ve reduced my “information search” massively with my Notion Second Brain
I start projects quickly and with chatgpt + my digital organization system, I find the things I need much more easily which allows my brain to be a connection machine
These things MATTER. You can’t run a 2025 program on a windows 95 machine. It just can’t handle it. Take the time to make those mental upgrades. To support your greater work.
Create empty space by outsourcing and cleaning up your digital (and physical workspace). The less you have in front of you, the MORE you are able to create and fill that empty space with awesome stuff.
My entire life is a supplement to helping me create at my highest and most efficient ability. The WORLD is my muse, my inspiration. I create through the feeling of constant awe and wonder.
Most people chase outcomes and they never make it because they never upgraded the software, the script, the blueprint they’re running. Don’t make that mistake.
