Speak of the Devil
This year I re-read the book Outwitting The Devil… if you haven’t heard about it, it’s from the same author as Think and Grow Rich (Napoleon Hill) which was published 73 years after his death due to the controversy surrounding him “speaking to the devil”…
And while the book has many lessons as to why 98% of people are ‘under his grasp’ it also points to an interesting way to write potent copy…
which is: speaking to one person
Our minds are like giant data processors, that depend on the inputs we feed it. And, before beginning any client work I always start with Market Research scrubbing forums, comments, book reviews, etc. to get into the mind of my target customer…
After that I tend to ‘let go’ and let things find me and write one long sales letter with no edits until after I’m done…
i revisit it multiple times and end with ‘rearranging the arguments’ to craft one potent marketing message…
usually my 4th try is where I get the best results…
But, this exercise is something i also do with MYSELF…
i have conversations with my ‘shadow’ to learn more about my repeated actions and why i do what I do…
It’s been a daily process of reflection thats helped me become who I am…
and although there is controversy on whether or not Hill spoke to the real devil, i believe that HE believed he did so…
real or not, it’s brought interesting points and arguments as to how someone can ‘defeat the devil’…
Perhaps this is your cue to craft an imaginary friend to talk to,
or disregard this and call me crazy…
But one thing is for sure: REFLECTION is key to become successful
reflect more…
until tomorrow,
Shakoor
