The Case Against Reading...
You all remember Tai Lopez telling you that he “reads one book a day”… or any “successful gooroo” sharing with you their 500 step morning routine for “maximum productivity” never wasting a second like they are the clone of Elon Musk…
All this “hustle hustle hustle”, “grind” and get your money up… for what? Money?
Seems like there is MORE to a satisfactory life than just money (and yes, I am allowed to say that because I GOTS the MUNNY)…
Some of the most happiest people live in those poor remote villages, leading simple lives… they don’t ask to be rich or do anything more than live day-by-day surrounded by nature, family, and animals.
Seems unsatisfactory to me… If it came to it I’d choose sadness and misery over leading a “simple” life… I WANT to conquer the planet and I’m willing to pay whatever the cost to get it.
Look, my friend… books will make you knowledgeable but it WILL NOT make you wise.
That can only come from life experience. And, believe it or not there is a whole world out there waiting for you OUTSIDE of your Netflix account, Instagram account, bedroom, and “laptop lifestyle”.
In fact, its why the end of this year I completely stopped consuming knowledge.
I’m the type of guy that LOVES reading and learning but I find that reading is a very inefficient way to internalize knowledge.
Most books have ONE key point that they repeat 4000 different times
Once you get really good at something, there really isn’t much else to learn that gives you a “payoff per units of time invested” compared to DOING
At the top levels, knowledge starts to conflict each other and you don’t know who to listen to anymore
Books are quickly “forgotten” unless they are implemented right away
In my own room, I have probably 1000+ pages of handwritten notes and legal pads, breaking down all the courses, books, learnings I went through… (side note: highly recommend you buy some legal pads if you want to be successful)
I’ve started to spend more time in the ANALOG world and minimized by time in the digital one; taking into mind EMPIRICISM — the branch of philosophy that says all knowledge comes from EXPERIENCE.
And, while books might be a good way to read about the experiences of others most people highly neglect their OWN experiences in favor of “sacrifice now for the life they want in the future”…
I think that’s completely backwards thinking that leads to MORE pain and regret in the future because my 20s should be spent BEING 20 and not waiting for some ‘arbitrary time in the future’ (that NEVER comes) due to the INFINITE games we all play…
Always another book to read, more money to make, another woman to sleep with… it never ends.
So; you might be asking “what is the best way to live a successful life and get KNAW-LEDGE?
I’ll tell you that, but first let me explain where KNAW-LEDGE came from…
You see, we weren’t the only species of humans to exist. There were Neanderthals, and very short humans that looked like dwarves to co-exist on the planet with us…
The ONE thing that separated us from these other species was our ability to pass down knowledge…
While Neanderthals used the same tools/technology for 200,000+ years, humans with their advanced communication skills were able to build upon and improve upon the knowledge passed down from their ancestors…
it’s why we went from cooking with fire, to harnessing the same process to build super cars… it’s the SAME technology — only refined to be better and find new use cases
And, all academia works the same way… it all started from the old school branches of Greek Philosophy; Science, Math, Literature, etc. — all began from “thinking about thinking” (the definition of philosophy)…
And, if you were to explore some of these books — most of them are in the form of a dialogue…
Are you noticing the the pattern yet? Do you see that ALL knowledge is passed down and improved upon by “conversation”…
Any idea how to get the BEST of knowledge you need to live a good life?
It starts with finding and following the ONE person who has achieved what you set out to achieve, and adding your own touch to their knowledge, building upon it step by step…
Nothing you set out to achieve HAS NOT been done before, there is nothing “new” under the sun… it’s all build upon the foundations of knowledge before that and before that too…
In my goal to become “wise”, I much rather spend time now with people from all areas of life and converse with them…
I live life to gain EXP points, and level up…
Because a book will never help me get to where I’m going, PEOPLE will…
People bring the opportunities you need to live the life you want
People bring the knowledge you need, condensed and summarized that you can use TODAY to succeed and get to the next level
People are how you build something that is still alive long after your gone (I mean, you can’t LITERALLY have a legacy without 2 to procreate a child)
It’s time to put down the books.
It’s time to stop the “grind”…
It’s time to NOT disappear from your friends and lock yourself in a room with a laptop to “grind it out”…
The world awaits full of amazing opportunities, experiences, relationships, and MUNNEY…
All you have to do is step outside and meet it halfway…
If you want to enter rooms like these start by:
Heading out more — contacting those people you lost touch with
Bringing FUN
A secret tactic to get into the “elite tables” is bringing one of two things:
Money Making Opportunities
Fun
…and FUN is always in short supply for the elite
Go meet some interesting people in your city.
Get some life experience under your belt.
There is no “rush” and some might argue “no destination”…
There is no “sacrificing today for a better life in the future”… the future does not (and will not) ever exist…
All you have is THIS moment, the infinite Pre-Sent…
LIVE LIFE.
